29th May 2024 What A Month For PTC Athletes

May was a busy month for PTC athletes – here’s what they got up to:

Karen (and partner Denis) successfully completed the gruelling hilly 112-mile Fred Whitton Challenge bike ride in the Lake District – her biggest event yet since her knee operation and just another step in her endurance journey. Ironman Wales will be her next big event and after that – who knows.

Barry completed the hot, hilly and windy Ironman Lanzarote in a very respectable 15 hour and 21 minutes – sub 1 hour 30-minute swim, just over 8 hours on the bike and just over 5 hours 30 minutes for the marathon. Amazing performance from Barry having trained through a cold British Winter.

Lee completed his first ultra run – The Lap – 47 hilly miles around Lake Windemere in what turned out to be the hottest day of the year with temperatures peaking at 35 degrees. Lee finished in just under 16 and half hours – amazing, especially when over a fifth of the entrants retired from the race due to the heat.

Mark was the only UK participant in the Bilzen 111 Triathlon in Belgium – a 1km swim, 100km bike and a  10km run. In a strong field of over 400 people, Mark finished in 86th position overall and 4th in his age group with a sub 22-minute swim, just over 2 hours 30 minutes on the bike and finishing up with a sub 40-minute 10k.

In his 1st race back after a long bout of illness, Chris managed to get himself to the start line of the Dalby Forest Duathlon and achieved 5th place in his age group in a total time of 1hour 38 minutes and 3 seconds.

Well done from everyone here at PTC Towers – I’m looking forward to see what else everyone gets up to throughout 2024.
