How to set your cleats up in a good neutral starting position. It's not as complicated as you might think!
1) Take note of your foot and it's two widest parts:

2) Stick masking tape on the outsides of your shoe in roughly the same place as these wide parts of your foot:

3) Put your shoe on and squeeze the side of your shoe – when you find those wide spots of your feet, draw a line on the masking tape where those wide spots are on the outside of the shoe:

4) Loosely bolt your cleat onto the bottom of your shoe and then place a ruler between the two lines which you drew on each side of your shoe. Then roughly line up the centre of the cleat using the ruler:

5) Remove the ruler and roughly align each of the rectangular washers so they are as central as they can be within each of their recesses and nip up the three bolts:

6) Re-check the centre of the cleat is still aligned using a ruler between the two lines and tighten the bolts up (6Nm if you have a torque wrench). If the cleat has moved, adjust it, check it and then tighten up the bolts:
7) AND FINALLY - REMEMBER TO REMOVE THE TAPE FROM EACH SIDE OF YOUR SHOES!
